Precisely!!! Look, even S.H.E and 5566 need the support of Singaporean Fans... this shows how much the Singaporeans can do to help foreign artistes... although we dont have a huge population... (if you were to read my previous post... you will see the point)
Now, this is the whole idea of business... our representative goes abroad to create 'market'... while foreigners come in to make some money too... there is a flow...
So for those we feels that the local market is small... think again... we might be small yet ppl still enter Singapore to gain support...

but can we .. i mean the singapore fans to support our local singer as much as they support s.h.e and 5566 I think it is highly possible that we Singaporean fans can support our local singer as much or even more than they support S.H.E and 5566. Just take a look at our local singers such as Ah Du and Sun Yanzi. The support they get from us definitely do not lose out to that compared to the foreign singers. but one thing i noticed is tat most of the time our local singers only starts to get our support more after they have became popular from overseas like Taiwan.

okay... I agree tat Ah Du is not a good example to quote... nevertheless, i think if our local singers hav the charisma and the talent to be popular, they will definitely get our singaporeans to support them.

of course! in order for our local music industry to grow, these producers / composers are as important as the singers.. without good producers n composers coming up with good songs, a talented singer cannot perform at his/her maximum potential. hope tat our producers / composers can work hand in hand with our local singers to bring forth the best prospects for our music industry..

mmmh... someone mentioned tat piracy doesn't hit Taiwan bad, well I dun think so. Piracy and music download is hitting the whole world hard, even the US. In the past, a good album can hit up to 1 million record sales in taiwan, now, record company celebrate victory for 300,000 sales! Jus that taiwan has a bigger chinese population to sustain the market. Singapore chinese market is alreadi small (substracting those chinese who look down on chinese music), let alone with piracy and kazaa! for the Singapore singer thingy, well, Singaporeans do support Singaporeans, but only if they are well-received overseas. This is a sad, but the reality. Not only for pop music industry, but also for other Arts field!Look at our avant garde pianist, Margaret Leng Tan. Singaporeans get to know her and get her perform here after she popularise herself in US! and why isit so hard to develop a Singapore Chinese singer? look at our Singaporean chinese standards? how many of us can speak proper chinese, wirte chinese, and read chinsese?? You wan to make it big in the chinese market, you got be armed with good chinese proficiency. Our a-du is one who has problems (and try to hide it with his 'shy' character, no offence) and how many of our singer-composer write lyrics? practically none! Singaporeans are also to hard up for quick success. This gotta do wif our educational system. someone mentiond most of us would wan to get a secure job before pusuing our dreams. I agree. when you are too use to comfort and security, how much failure and rejections can you take in chasing your dreams? are you for the money and fame, or for the real interest in music? and of course, do we have the proper channel and insituation to develop the talents, other than talentime? I dun think so. just my 3 cents
